CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF AWESOME

I had the great experience of seeing Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs a few weeks ago, and was blown away! This movie gives me hope for the future of CGI animated features after all. This is a real cartoon, from beginning to finish, and it's not afraid to show it. Funny walk cycles, eyes popping out, double takes, and all kinds of cartoony fun that most every other CG movie today would not dare to go to.

If you haven't seen it yet, do it (especially in 3D or IMAX)! Hopefully it inspires other studios to stop being scared of taking advantage of this art form, and to take more chances at being cartoony and entertaining.

So much like my Coraline post from earlier this year, this post isn't much else than a simple entry to share and keep track of all the cool concept artwork for Cloudy that I've been collecting over the intenet. These pieces are credited to artists Pete Oswald, Armand Serrano, Kris Pearn and David Gibson. And as always, if you really like this movie and the art you see here, buy the art-of book!

Wow, I just saw Tara's drawing right before yours, hah. Amazing stuff man! And I really need to get the art-of book because usually, I don't like 3D cartoons as much as 2D, but this is definitely the cartooniest 3D animated movie around!

Man, I love this stuff. The movie was really entertaining to watch and really cartoony too. Its like a step above Horton Hears a Who (which I thought was extremely cartoony until I saw meatballs). I gotta buy that damn artbook.

Is the first image drawn by you?

My favorites are pete oswalds! Those children books are only 2 bux! I gotta get those along with the art book sometime in the future.

Niki-
Seeecretsss...

Niko-
It's hands down the cartooniest CGI film ever made. It even beats Pixar in that arena. If anyone's interested, read my full Cloudy movie review here.

Zach-
Haha, I wish! It's one of the book illustrations, I think. Thank you for thinking I could draw that well though! ;)

Tara-
Heck yea!!!

I'm usually against CGI (it's not my "bag")...but I might give this one a chance. Those characters designs look awesome!

Nics, I was gonna skip this one until I saw positive reviews from you and John! Now I can't wait to see it. Thanks!

By the way, can I call you Nics? Can I call you Snics? Can I call you Sneakers? I'll stop now.

I'm getting the word verification "undruces". It's always a little weird when someone undruces in front of you.

Yeah, I'm all over this one. Unfortunately, I just checked the listings and the closest theatre that has 'Black Dynamite' is a five hour drive away.

Poop.
