NICO'S REVIEW OF 2015!
2015! It's already come and it's already gone. But what a year it was for me... possibly the biggest and best yet? It was my 7th year living in Los Angeles, and the first year where I really felt like the silly projects I do are becoming big things. But the real special part has been my friends, old and new, who have spent this year with me and made it such a joy. Here's my look-back of this year... the good times and the best bits of 2015.
BACK TO THE FUTURE
The Back to the Future art show kicked 2015 on the right track. I am immensely thankful for the artists, the people who came to visit, and BTTF co-creator and screenwriter Bob Gale himself for supporting the gallery on opening night. These shows can be a lot of work at times, but when we open those doors and the flood of people start pouring in, and their eyes widen and smiles grow all around, it makes it all worth it!
PIG GOAT BANANA CRICKET
My first full year working at Nickelodeon, and it feels goood! Pig Goat Banana Cricket (the show I work on) premiered over the summer. It's pretty amazing to be part of something on TV, something that people enjoy and come up to you and talk about. This is one crazy show and I love it and everyone I work with!
SDCC 2015
This might've been the craziest Comic Con yet. I was publicly drunk for about 70% of it but at least I have pictures to jog my memories!
SAN FRANCISCO
I love San Francisco. I took a week trip there in August and it was one of the highlights of my life. The Walt Disney Family Museum alone is worth the trip. The Charles Schultz Museum, all the great bars and food, the ocean and sea life. Even my hotels were cool.
BAD MOVIE NIGHTS
Started regularly scheduled Bad Movie Nights at my place this year. Complete craziness. I hope to do a hundred of these.
ALICE IN WONDERLAND
This show was so much fun to do. Another art gallery in the books!
ACTION TRIVIA
Another flawless year of victories for our pub trivia team Stevie Dynamite and the Hollywood Nipples!
THE SIMPSONS
The most successful gallery show this year. Julia and I had the best time curating this together, and I'm pretty darn proud of how it turned out. Shoutout to all the Simpsons artists who contributed and supported, as well as Matt G himself for showing up!
EMILY AND AARON
These two crazy kids got married and I couldn't be happier for them. I love them both so much, it's ridiculous!
CHANNEL 101
No matter what happens, I always take comfort in knowing that Channel 101 is around. It reminds me that even though people come and people go, 101 itself will always be there with open arms. A great community for artists and filmmakers to be together and make cool shit.
JEM & THE HOLOGRAMS
Yet another art show soon followed, this time at Cinefamily. A total honor being asked to help curate an event and art show for Jem! And yes, it was in complete rebellious action against the big dumb Jem movie Hollywood made. Thanks to my great friends for contributing art, and it was wonderful meeting Jem's creator Christy Marx!
HALLOWEEN
Halloween is usually a pretty big deal for me but this might've been the best one yet (?) Nick and Titmouse both put on some great parties. Plus I won 1st Place for Best Comedy Costume! Sorry George.
ANNIES
Brailey and I had the pleasure of being on the judging panel for next year's Annie Awards. It was really cool to be on this panel and learn how all this award stuff works! Thanks a bunch to our pal Brooke for having us!
THANKSGIVING IN ARIZONA
It's always nice going back to Tucson and being with so many great buddies for the holidays. Now Molly and Carl are expecting, scheduled for May 2016. Congrats you guys!!!
So here's to 2015. And 2016 is right behind the corner! There are a bunch of things I left out of this review for length's sake, plus a couple of things I HAD to leave out - things that must remain secret for now. Things that are being worked on right now!
There are plenty of surprises in store for next year, and I can't wait to spend them with all of you!!
Lots of love! -Nico
